Santa on the Lifeboat: A Festive Evening in the Square
This year’s Santa on the Lifeboat event brought festive cheer to the Castle Street/Church Street square, despite a few challenges along the way!
The evening was cold but mostly dry – perfect weather for Christmas music to fill the air as we welcomed visitors to this much-loved festive tradition. The Glen Cassley, beautifully decorated, served as Santa’s sleigh for the night (with the Rev. John Chambers donning the red suit and playing the role of Santa) whilst Wildland remained on station ready for any callouts.
Guests were treated to mulled wine, juice, and sweets, while mince pies made a late (but much appreciated!) appearance – courtesy of Tony forgetting to unpack them from his car until Baz reminded him! 🙄 😂 Even so, everyone enjoyed the seasonal spirit as families gathered to soak in the festive atmosphere.
One highlight of the evening was Santa giving a very special early Christmas gift to Susan Lister, a disabled young lady who is wheelchair-bound. Her joy lit up the square as she received her present from Santa himself – a magical moment for all who saw it.
The evening also featured a guest appearance from our very own Graham Brewer, who stepped into the role of one of Santa’s elves. Suited and booted in festive attire, Graham brought smiles to children and adults alike.
While fewer people attended than last year, likely due to a broken-down coach blocking much of the view of our "sleigh-boat," we still raised a wonderful £64 in donations. A big thank you to everyone who contributed and to our dedicated team of volunteers, as well as the Rev John Chambers for donning the Santa suit with flair.
It was a night of Christmas cheer, community spirit, and a reminder of the joy this time of year brings to all – young and not so young alike. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and here’s to a bigger and even brighter event next year! 🎅🎄
